Get a Christmas tree!

And we did! We cut down a fresh tree the weekend after Thanksgiving and it brought me such joy.

Decorate the tree while listening to Christmas music

Done too! This is one of our very favorite traditions.

Bake Christmas cookies (with more Christmas music!)

Because what is better than a house that smells AND sounds like Christmas! Thanks to my friend Linda for suggesting this over on Instagram last week!

Decorate your home

The same day we cut down the tree, we set up all the Christmas decorations. I’m OBSESSED with how festive and happy the house feels so I keep adding little decorations here and there. A cinnamon broomstick from Trader Joe’s and a Merry Christmas banner from Target are the latest additions. #noshameinmyChristmasgame

Light cozy candles

This is an instant mood setter! We love the Cedar & Balsam ones from Trader Joe’s right now. They smell a m a z i n g and the cozy glow of the candles puts me right in the Christmas spirit!

Drink hot cocoa with marshmallows

Obviously, a completely mandatory holiday activity!

Wear Christmas jammies

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

My brothers, sister, Peter and I get ours from Santa’s elves on Christmas Eve and we all take a cute picture, get cozy and watch a Christmas movie together. Probably our number one Christmas tradition!

Bake fresh cinnamon rolls

Can’t take any credit for this because it’s ALL my mom but she makes homemade cinnamon rolls every year for Christmas morning breakfast. BEYOND. We look forward to them all year. They’re the perfect thing to whip up this weekend for a yummy Sunday breakfast!

Watch the 25 Days of Christmas on Freeform

I always still want to type ABC Family, anyone else?! This is a sure fire way to get in the Christmas spirit. And they are playing all the time so whenever you have a chance you can sit down and enjoy a holiday movie!

Visit the tree in Rockefeller Center (or any town or city center with a decorated tree!)

We love doing this! So much holiday cheer in city centers with festive lights and people shopping. If you ever get the chance, the tree in Rockefeller Center is amazing!

Enjoy a holiday brunch or breakfast (with Santa too!)

Back when Peter and I were still in college my mom started taking the two of us out for a Christmas brunch the day before Christmas Eve. We were home from school so it was a fun way to kick off Christmas vacation. Each year since then (this will be our 9th year!) my siblings have gotten older and joined us, then my grandparents and now my dad’s best friend and his family. It’s one of our very favorite traditions to enjoy brunch at our favorite restaurant and just RELAX. This year we are doing it on Christmas Eve and can’t wait! We are also going to a Santa breakfast this weekend with our niece and nephew, which will be so fun to enjoy with them!

Have a popcorn and Christmas movie marathon

Pretty much every night in our house is a popcorn and SOMETHING night so during December we always grab a big bowl of popcorn and pick a Christmas movie (or two!) to watch.

Enjoy some Christmas shopping

Small, local shops are always so lovely this time of year! Even just a stroll through totally gets me in the Christmas spirit. I just love the hustle and bustle of the season.

Walk around and enjoy the Christmas lights

Such a simple way to enjoy the festive lights! It’s so fun to take Walden for a walk and look at how our neighbors have decorated their homes.

Go to Bright Nights!

I’m sure there is something similar in your local area but Bright Nights is a local spot where you drive through a huge Christmas light display while tuned in to Christmas music. We used to do it all the time when we were kids and LOVED IT!

Build a gingerbread house

We saw a big stack of Gingerbread houses at the grocery store last weekend and it totally got me in the mood to build a sweet little house!

Go see a Christmas show

We love A Christmas Carol here at The Hartford Stage in CT, The Nutcracker at the PPAC in RI and The Christmas Spectacular (shown above!) at Rockfeller Center in NYC. Check out what’s local for you. There are so many incredible performances this time of year!

Have a wrapping party

This is always fun plus you get all your wrapping done! Peter and I usually do this on Christmas Eve while watching a Christmas movie. #procrastinators #butweloveit

Send Christmas cards

Sometimes snail mail is just the very best! I know for us, receiving Christmas cards from family and friends makes us beyond happy. We tape them up all over our kitchen so we can be reminded of all the Christmas wishes sent from near and far. Ps – ours are from Minted this year and I can’t say enough good things! The quality is beyond any expectations. OBSESSED, GUYS.

Spend time with family and friends

Simple but oh so good for our hearts, minds and souls. It’s really what this season is all about!

The easiest one of all! It takes so little to have a grateful heart, share joy, kindness and love with family, friends and strangers too! And it really, truly makes such a difference in someone else’s life.

We hope you are all enjoying the holiday season in your very favorite ways! What are your must do’s during this time of year? Would love to hear in the comments below!
